Galway Cathedral |
| |
When you visit Galway, there is one building that stands out among the rest, it’s the Galway Cathedral. It was built between 1958 and 1965 where the old Galway jail once stood.
The architecture of the Cathedral draws on many influences. The dome and pillars reflect a Renaissance style. There are many striking features to this building that draw to ones attention. The Mosaics and artistic windows, the large dome standing 145 ft and its huge towering pillars are reflective of Christian culture throughout Europe.
This is a Catholic church and there are regular services every week. The church is located at nuns island not far from the town hall theatre and Galway university.
