A famine emigrant from the Tuam area Dick Dowling became a publican in Houston, Texas, and a lieutenant in the confederate army. In charge of an artillery battery he successfully defeated a superior force of the union army in the naval battle of Sabine Pass. A monument to his memory can be seen in Hermann park , Houston, Texas.

The Ard Ri House Hotel is conveniently located with Galway Airport and Galway City only 30 minutes distant while Ireland West ( Knock ) airport is 50 minutes away on the N17 to Sligo. A regular coach service is available to all main destinations from Bus Eireann.
The ecclesiastical centre and historic town that is Tuam provides and attractive back drop to the Ard Ri House Hotel. The Hotel, in turn, boasts modern and well appointed banqueting and conference suites offering a superb venue for Wedding receptions and fit for a queen and king. In addition it also caters for regional conference, training seminars, parties and celebrations. The Hotel is located on the northern exit of the town (N17) Milltown road. It sits on a large 3 1/2 acre site inside the limits of the town on the left hand side as your leave the town and is bordered by a grove of mature evergreen trees. |
